I've had a lot of people ask me if I want to turn my recent photography hobby into a future career for myself. Wanna know the answer? Well, the short and sweet answer is no. I don't. I love my job (and my steady paycheck) and I don't plan on leaving it anytime soon in pursue of a photography career.
But you gotta know that there's a long answer too. Of course. While I don't plan on quitting my job anytime soon, I do think it'd be fun to master the art of photography and maybe someday (in a very, very long time) see where it goes. I have loved doing it so far. It is such a challenge to juggle so many things (both technically (think ISO, aperture, focus and shutter-speed) and non-technically (think trying to pose people and create great compositions). And in five+ years when I'm married and have babies? Well I guess then I'd have to rethink what I want in life once that time comes.
So for now, I am a graphic designer. And yes, a photographer too. But as a side thing. Something outside of work that I can focus my creativity on and love. And if I get tired of it? Well, I'll step back, take a break, and see what happens from there.
PS - sorry about dropping the ball on Trendy Tuesday. I've been without internet at home for about a week and haven't had the time to peruse all my blogs for inspiration! Next week it should be back.

It's funny isn't it that as soon as you start taking good photos people assume you want to set up a photography business. Your photos are great so I can see why people say it but fantastic on you for deciding on what works for you. Rebecca x
I so totally agree - I am in the same boat! I love photography - but adore my steady paycheck. So - like you - for now I continue to do both :)
That is how I was bit by the shutter bug. Someone asked me if I wanted to pursue a photography career. At the time I just wanted to take good pictures of my kids. I had no idea how to use my camera in manual much less TV and AV modes. I've learned how to do those things since then, but I have a really long way to go. I'm enjoying the ride and like you I'm thinking of log term goals. In the short term I would like to do this part time. I need my full time job ;-)
I am so glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for the comments ladies! :)
