But hopefully it got your attention?

I have decided (after a lot of thought) to change my blog. Again. I needed something that would stand the test of time, so I created one just based on my name. So Color Me Kati is no longer in service. Please visit my new blog to keep up with me. I plan on putting photography/design/personal stuff on there (much in the same way I do here now)

Okay, enough ramblings. Check it out.
Just an update on what our bedroom is looking like these days! Hahaha, sorry. I found that hilarious.

Moving on.

Last time I updated you guys, our bedroom was looking a little....boring. We had just picked out the perfect paint color, but a lot of final vision was still a long ways off.
We still have a long way to go, but here are the things we've accomplished so far:
• white sheets + duvet cover
• white antique dresser (replacing the brown one we used to have
• artwork on walls

Things we still need to do:
• get a headboard
• move artwork above bed to opposite wall (above dresser)
• fill up empty wall that bed faces (right now it's a big, empty wall with nothing on it)
• curtains
• euro shams

Anyway, I think it's going in the right direction! What do you think?Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-81397713056722134562012-09-03T17:50:00.002-05:002012-09-03T17:50:49.314-05:00Wedding Pictures (photos by Taylor Lord)

Some of our wedding pictures are finally up for the world to see. And, let me tell you, I am in love (and not just with my new hubs!). Is it weird to fall in love with your own wedding based on your pictures? Hope not, cause it's happening here!

It was just a relief to see that some of the things I was worried about weren't even visible to others. For example, I was so tired when John and I took our bride&groom pics -- I could hardly muster up a smile because I felt like I was going to fall over -- but those look amazing! Gorgeous! I can't wait to put them in my home :)
After so many adventures in both Arenal and Monteverde, we ended the trip at an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste - by the beach!) On the drive there from Monteverde, we got a little treat - our driver pulled over to let us stretch our legs and grab something to eat, and there was a group of macaws in the trees! It was crazy seeing such big (and LOUD) birds living in the wild!

When we did finally arrive at the resort, we soon learned that we had been automatically upgraded to the Royal Beach Club. We weren't super sure what that meant at first, but finally did learn that it was the most amazing thing EVER! We got to stay in a special part of the hotel where no children were allowed (I love kids, but it was nice to have the adults-only pool!), we got all-inclusive wrist-bands, and we had our own concierge. It truly felt like paradise there!

We didn't do a whole lot while we were there -- mainly just relaxed, ate and drank! Haha! I learned that my non-drinking hubs LOVES pina coladas (virgin ones, that is), and the unlimited amount that we were allowed to have was a good thing! Not sure how we would have paid for all of them without that! Hah. We spent our days laying by the pool, reading and going for an occasional dip to cool off. It was great - and there was a swim-up bar!

there were tons of lizards all over the property - and they were HUGE!

At night, we would pick one of the many restaurants on the property and make a reservation to eat there. It was fun to get dressed up and go out on dates together every night, and it was so romantic!

One day, we decided to do a coffee tasting at the hotel's coffee shop. We ended up being the only people who showed up, so we got a personal lesson on Costa Rica's coffee industry, got to taste some samples of local coffee, and even got some free drinks too! Our teachers, Angel and Esteven (not sure how to spell either's name...) were so fun, and it was literally one of the most fun things we got to do! Here's a picture of the four of us:

On one of the last days, we decided to get out of the resort for a day on a catamaran. We were expecting it to be about 20 people, and were surprised to get on the biggest boat in the ocean, with about 100 other people! At first, John and I were a little unhappy about the trip, but after we landed in a small cove and went snorkeling, we ended up having a fantastic time!

Once the day on the water was over, we got to watch the most beautiful sunset. It truly took my breath away, as did our entire trip! I would go back in a heartbeat, and am so glad that we chose to celebrate our first days as man and wife like we did! Hope you guys enjoyed the pictures!
I was <strike>thrilled</strike> terrified, but knew John really wanted to do it, so I sucked it up and went. And even though it was really scary, I had a great time! It was neat to see the forest from above for once, and fun to do something I've never done before with my new hubs! Here are some pictures to PROVE that it happened! (pardon the image quality on these, they were all taken with a P&S)

After we finished with that, we decided to squeeze one more adventure into our day: the butterfly garden. The butterflies there were pretty, but also nothing to freak about...but the flowers? Oh myLanta! They were out of this world!

The garden finds cocoons and protects them from the occasional predator until they hatch. It was neat to see the rows and rows of cocoons, and we even got to see a butterfly come out right in front of us. It was pretty neat.

The coolest butterfly there was called the Owl Butterfly (see image below). It uses its wing pattern to scare away predators because it looks like an owl when the wings are opened. But it has another defense too. Notice the right corner of the wing on the image below....does it look like a snake to you? That is its defense when its wings are closed. Neat, huh?

Stay tuned for the wrap up of our honeymoon: Guanacaste! AKA the beach!Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-30332825245483401002012-08-27T07:53:00.000-05:002012-08-27T07:53:00.250-05:00Honeymoon to Costa Rica (Monteverde, Part 1)We got up early Wednesday morning to head to Monteverde from Arenal (read about Arenal here). What we didn't realize is that we would be traveling a bit unconventionally, though. See, we figured we'd take a van there, just like we had from San Jose to Arenal. So when a van showed up to pick us up at our hotel, we had no hesitations. Twenty minutes later, though, when it stopped on the side of the road, we realized how we were really getting there. By boat. We later learned that this shaved about three hours off of the normal route, since we went through Lake Arenal (the largest man-made lake in the world, apparently) instead of around it.

After the boat ride, we drove for about 2.5 more hours to Monteverde. Why so long? Because we maybe went about 15 miles per hour the entire way there -- the roads were SO bumpy, and unpaved, that you couldn't go any faster. It was long, but not too bad. John and I were happy to finally arrive and get settled. The first night there, we decided to take a night walk. It was pretty amazing, and we saw so many different animals that night. It did end up raining most of the time (July is the rainy season in Costa Rica), so that was a bummer, but we saw snakes, frogs, toads, leaf-cutter ants, tarantulas, scorpions, and more. It was pretty amazing!

The next morning, we went on another nature walk, this time in the cloud forest. When we first met up, our guide decided to take us to the hummingbird section. There, tons of hummingbirds were buzzing around waiting for breakfast. Because John and I were wearing our red rain-jackets (again, it was rainy season), the hummingbirds were instantly attracted to us. One even landed on John's hands! It was amazing to see all the variety of species they have there!

After we left the hummingbird gardens, we headed into the forest. It's amazing to see the ancient trees inside the darkness, and we were fortunate to see some amazing animals. One interesting thing we saw was a wasp who had fungus growing out of its brain. The fungus attaches itself to the insect, and grows in their skulls -- it even controls them for a while. Then, the wasp gets paralyzed and ultimately dies. There's a picture below.

While we hiked, we saw some amazing things. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to grab SUPER pictures of anything, so I tried to just capture our surroundings instead.

not sure why this won't size right....oh well.

Finally we made it to our destination - a gorgeous waterfall in the middle of nowhere. Of course, we stopped to get a few pics before heading back.

On the hike back, we got word that there were some monkeys in the trees. We were so excited, as we hadn't been able to see any yet! Once we finally found the pack, I decided to just enjoy watching them instead of trying to get some pictures. They were amazing to watch - you could see them jumping from tree to tree, and knowing that they were wild animals made it that much better! I think everyone was pretty amazing, and we watched them until they all roamed away.

It was definitely an exciting day! But it wasn't over yet! Stay tuned for Part 2 of Monteverde!Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-40983609236453764672012-08-26T14:12:00.000-05:002012-08-26T14:12:01.192-05:00Honeymoon to Costa Rica (Arenal)

John and I left for our honeymoon on Monday - a day and a half after tying the knot. It was definitely one of the best decisions we made, because we were able to have all day Sunday to just unwind and pack. We saw our parents and told funny stories from the day before, and it was really good. I would highly recommend this to other people!

So Monday morning, we were supposed to leave around 6:00 AM to depart Little Rock. At 4:30, when we woke up, we got news that our plane had some mechanical problems, and would be delayed until 10:00 AM, meaning we would definitely have missed our connecting flight. So we chose to leave Little Rock at 1:30 PM instead, so that we wouldn't have such a long layover in Atlanta.

Since we got to Costa Rica so much later that day than we had originally planned, we had to stay in San Jose one night, and give up our hotel reservation in Arenal, Costa Rica. Our stay in San Jose was pretty uneventful, so let's just go ahead and skip on to Tuesday morning, when our driver picked us up to drive us the three hours to Arenal.

As we drove along, I started to dose in the car. About two hours in, though, our driver suddenly woke me (and John) up to tell us to grab the camera. As he pulled off the highway, we were both a bit confused, but eager to see what he was so excited about. Up above our heads, not 10 feet off the side of the road, was a mama sloth (3-toed) and a little baby. What a delight! Especially since it was the only one we got to see the entire trip!

When we finally did get to Arenal we were to amazed at our luck with our villa. It was yellow (my favorite!) and adorable, with a big bedroom and our own patio. That afternoon, we went to the nearby town and ordered local food - I got fish tacos (one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life!) and John got authentic "tipicol" food (the "tipicol"is referring how we saw "typical" spelled many times while we were there).

While in Arenal, we signed up to do an evening at the local Tabacon Thermal Springs Resort. It was our first real night out of our honeymoon! We got a nice dinner there, and afterwards, got to explore their natural hot pools that are hot due to the proximity to the active Arenal Volcano. It was so neat to see, and was super romantic! I'm pretty sure it was even on ABC's The Bachelor one season!

The next day we woke up bright and early to go to Monteverde. Check back tomorrow for a post on that!Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-62249440134997702262012-08-14T17:01:00.004-05:002012-08-14T17:01:51.089-05:00If I Could Write a Letter to MeI planned my wedding for years. Before I met John. Before I even liked boys. My best friend says she remembers the first time I came to her house and casually asked her what she thought her wedding dress would look like. We were in sixth grade.

Needless to say, I thought I was prepared.

But I was wrong. Looking back, it's actually kind of funny. Kind of.

So if I could go back, I'd tell myself these 10 things so things would go a little...smoother.

1. Don't stuff your face with gourmet foods that you've steered clear of for months at the rehearsal dinner. Don't drink any wine cause it will sneak up on you. Pace yourself, hun. Resist the urge and eat light.

2. Remember to bring your shampoo and retainer to Mom & Dad's house so you don't have to go home at 5:30 on the morning of your wedding, trying to make sure John doesn't see you.

3. Take your anxiety pill even though you think it will make you nauseous. Cause, honestly, you're gonna be nauseous anyway without it, so you might as well try it.

4. Stand up for yourself if you think your makeup is overdone. Otherwise, you'll be paranoid about it for the next month while you wait to see if your pictures turn out okay.

5. Even though your vows are finished, go ahead and put pen to paper a few days before the wedding so you're not running around like a chicken without her head trying to find a damn pen Saturday afternoon.

6. Put your keys in your purse. This is KEY (haha) to making sure the getaway vehicle is at the reception for you to...um...getaway in it? Also, having the getaway vehicle at the reception will allow your entire wedding party to be at the party, instead of running around the parking lot for an hour trying to find a car that isn't there.

7. Let everyone in the wedding party know the exact plans and what their roles should be. DO NOT follow people's advice and just "let it happen." Be your normal control-freak self and get it done right the first time.

8. Eat more cake. Can't stress it enough.

9. Have tossing bouquet near the dance floor. Or a bridesmaid bouquet. Or anything?

10. Pack a bag for Sunday morning. Bring make-up. Bring pants. Bring a bra. Bring a bag to put your dress in so when you leave the nicest hotel in Little Rock, you don't look like a freaking hobo.

And Kati, just remember. Even if none of this happens, it's going to be okay. Because at the end of the evening, you'll leave your amazing, perfect wedding with your HUSBAND. And even if you happen to get a little sick on the way to the hotel (huh?) he still loves you very, very much. You're a lucky girl. And you never have to do this again. You'll be happy about that, surprisingly. Believe me.Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-72983748566563080292012-08-13T11:35:00.003-05:002012-08-13T11:35:59.740-05:00Bridal PortraitsHello! The new Mrs. Mallory here :) John and I had the most wonderful wedding and I can't wait to share details and photos! Our honeymoon to Costa Rica was to die for and I have tons of pictures from that for all of you too! Just have to sort a few things at home first (where do I put all my new plates?) and get settled into this new normal first.

Anyway, I thought I'd share some of my bridal portraits in the mean-time. My wonderful, talented friend Garrett Houston took these photos for me and he was amazing! So down-to-earth and fun to be around. We edited them together and I love them all! Hope you enjoy.
I went to lunch today with my sweet fiance. Towards the end of our pizza pie, conversation led to all of the wedding preparations, and how close we're getting (10 days, if you're counting). Out of nowhere, John started saying some really sweet things to me, and ask he spoke, the thought crossed my mind that this is something I want to remember. I contemplated writing it in my neglected personal journal, but instead decided to share this {semi} personal thing with anyone reading this.

The conversation started simply and ended simply. Basically, a friend of John's (we'll call him Bill) was over at the house last night (I had gone to bed so I wasn't around for this conversation). John and Bill went out to the shed, where John has been working on a structure for us to put seating assignments on. While out there, Bill commented how he hadn't done a single thing for his own wedding, and how his now-wife planned the entire thing and he just showed up. Apparently, this struck a cord with John, who agreed that, although he might be an inch more involved than Bill had been, he really wasn't being very involved either.

This is where it got interesting. From out of nowhere, John started getting a bit emotional. Not crying, but I could tell that what he was saying, he really meant. He said the whole conversation with Bill got him thinking about how much really goes into wedding planning, and how much I've done to get this wedding planned.

It was the first time I felt like he really thought about how many hours I've slaved to attempt to pull this whole thing off. And it felt so good to hear his words of appreciation, of gratitude and of thanks. He sincerely looked into my eyes and told me how much he loved me, how proud he was of me, and how he could not wait to marry me. Y'all, I almost cried on that pizza patio.

It's amazing how just a little acknowledgement can mean so much.

So, John, if you're reading this, please know that I am so thankful for you too. Thank you for:

• taking care of my flat tire: helping me plug the flat, driving me around to doctors appointments, taking me to get the flat patched, calling numerous auto-repair places when the tire was deemed unrepairable, finding a replacement tire, finding the cheapest place for me to take my car, and for taking me there.
• making the bed most days
• cleaning the whole house before the housecleaners came on Tuesday morning
• waking up at 6:00 this morning to work on wedding things
• thinking of cute ways to make the seating chart look its best
• taking me for ice-cream
• giving me hugs at the end of a long day
• running at 5:00 in the morning so I can get to work on time (even though you have nowhere to be until noon)
• telling me I'm doing a good job to keep me motivated
• doing it all while you're taking summer school classes, with a looming test and paper

And finally, thank you for asking me to marry you. I cannot wait for the moment I see you on our wedding day, I cannot wait to read my vows to you and to hear yours, and I cannot wait for our pastor to pronounce us man and wife. I love you!Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-64927756923772742662012-06-27T14:33:00.003-05:002012-06-27T14:33:56.919-05:00Scatter, ScatterBrain!**Tomorrow marks the one-month countdown until the big day and I feel like my mind is racing in 100 different directions at any given time of the day. Life is SO crazy right now and I'm beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed! I'm trying to keep calm and plan on, and to remember that this is the only time in my entire life that I will be a month away from marrying the man of my dreams -- so I need to embrace this time and enjoy it!

**Last weekend, we were able to escape to Hot Springs for the weekend to have some summer fun on the lake. It was such a relief to get away from it all and just focus on having some fun in the sun! We saw some beautiful sunsets, ate plenty of goodness and got some much-needed R&R.
**Work has been pretty hectic this past week. Just a tad bit crazy, but with my <strike>senioritis</strike> wedding-itis I'm having a hard time focusing on a single thing...especially when there are 50 other single things waiting on me when I get home! Last night, for example, I came home and worked at my computer for 5 hours on part of our rehearsal dinner slideshow. John and I each picked a song to play during pictures of us growing up, and I did my section first since I had everything I needed already. Y'all, I did good (not to toot my own horn or anything.... hah!) but I'm totally getting overly-emotional about the simplest things! I'm becoming my own mother :)

**This weekend, John and I are going to stay home and crunch down on some wedding things: like getting John's ring engraved (see below!). He's going to have it engraved with the same phrase that is found on each of his own parents' rings, which I find extremely sweet and romantic. They have been married for 28 years so let's hope it brings us luck and love in our own marriage.

I'm also going to get some wedding stuff done this weekend (cross my fingers, that is!) One thing I need to do is get a "here comes the bride sign" (see examples below). Since our little flower girl and ring bearer are so young, we thought that having them walk together while carrying a sign together would be 1) easier on them and 2) the cutest thing ever. And so far, my Etsy scouting for a sign have turned up empty (bah!) so I'm thinking I may have to resort to making one myself (just another thing on the list!)

**In other news, my camera lens finally came in (yahooooo!) and I'm so excited! Have I played with it yet? Nope. I'm so bad. But when I have a spare minute, I have it and it's ready to go!
Yeah, so what if he's a puppy...he's my sister's BABY so I love him like my own :) He is only 10 weeks right now and still small enough to hold. Since he's supposed to be a 50+ pounder, we thought it'd be good to go ahead and document his little puppy phase. Introducing, Mr. Gus-Gus!
This past weekend, I rented a lens from them for the second time and just thought others might gain some useful knowledge from my past experiences with this company.

The first time I rented from Lens Pro To Go, I rented a Canon 35mm/1.4L. To recap, I had a few questions while ordering the lens so I gave their customer service a call. To my surprise, the phone was picked up on the second or third ring by the nicest man, who was able to clearly answer all my questions and even share some insight into how the lens would work on my Canon 60D. He ordered the lens for me over the phone and it arrived promptly that Friday. I was pumped to finally get my hands on this professional lens, but quickly noticed a few less than wonderful qualities. For some reason, the edges of my images were blurring dramatically with this new lens (see images below)

I quickly turned to my trusted photography source, Clickin' Moms (don't laugh...it really is pretty amazing!) and posted a few of my images for some of the women to review. Immediately, they told me I had gotten a bum lens and that I should call the company and request a replacement.

After giving Lens Pro To Go a call, I was again amazed by how wonderful their staff is! They soothed my worries, and let me know that they would be shipping a replacement lens overnight to insure I had it in time for my first photo shoot Saturday morning. They said that the lens had suffered from a bit of jostling during shippment, but that it rarely happened (and I think they were a little upset that it was only my first time renting!) To hear it was not my fault (I'd only had the sucker for 15 minutes!) and that I was operating the camera correctly was such a relief! Here are some of my favorite images from that weekend with the 35mm:

By the way, this lens is totally on my wish-list!

{I also shot a boudoir session that weekend and the 35mm did amazing! I totally want to do more of those so if you know of anyone who is interested, send them my way!}

So this time, when I decided to try out a new 24-70/2.8L lens for a birthday party I shot this weekend, I knew exactly where to turn: Lens Pro To Go! I tried ordering the lens online but was having some problems with my shipping address working, so I turned to my trusty phone once more. A great guy answered the phone, double-checked my order, and went ahead and ordered the lens for me over the phone. Easy as pie! I was told it would arrive Friday morning, and at 10:30 that day, it was in my arms. Hooray!

One thing about this lens: it's HEAVY! Much heavier than any other lenses I've used. But that bulk was a good thing! It's professional, people.

Moving on. I took the lens home and shot with it all weekend. MAN it was a dream! Here are some of my best pictures from this weekend (some of which you've already seen):

The main things I like about this lens? For one, it's got a zoom, which is really useful when taking pictures of moving things that don't follow commands well (i.e. kids and dogs). Also, it works really well as a macro lens (which means close-up), like the picture of the present with the gift tag. Love that about it!

Unfortunately, I had to send in the lens yesterday -- but at least it was easy (seriously, all you have to do is put the lens in its original box, stick a sticker on it (which Lens Pro To Go includes when they mail it to you) and drop it off at a UPS store. Easy as pie!

Since my heart was so heavy about losing this lens, I did the only logical thing I could think of.

I bought one.

Used (3 months old) and for about $400 cheaper than it is here, I bought my very own L-glass lens. i.am.so.pumped.and.i.want.it.now! But I'll have to wait a few days as it's currently in the mail on its way.

So why did I buy this lens? Honestly, I want the 35mm/1.4 more. But this lens is so versitle. It's a great replacement to my "ish" kit lens and I know I can use it for some great wide-angle shots until I can pool enough money for the 35mm. But one of the main reasons I bought it is that it'll be PERFECT for our honeymoon! I'll be able to zoom in on monkeys and zoom out to show whole landscapes, all with one lens. Which means less baggage and weight to carry around and more time to just capture what I see!

Anyway, I guess I got a little off topic about the whole Lens Pro To Go theme, but U-turning it back to that, they're a great company and I couldn't recommend them more. And they didn't even pay me to say that. Although they could. Anytime. :)

Peace. You may remember this family from last year when I took their Christmas family photos. Anyway, Jack turned THREE this weekend (how is he already that big?!?) and his mama threw him a little backyard shindig. And it was darn-near perfection! Everyone just chilled out in the backyard; the kids played, the adults mingled and cake was eaten by all. Hope you enjoy this HUGE share! I had too much trouble picking my favorites!
Happy Birthday, little man!

I'm doing this post because I still haven't found my memory cards for my camera. Might need to buy a new one since I'm taking pictures this weekend. Moving on.....

If you're not using Instagram yet, you're missing out.

Basically, Instagram is a free app for your phone where you can take and post pictures throughout the day. Think twitter, but more geared towards us visual people. It's really fun and I enjoy posting lots! So I thought I'd go through and give you a little glimpse into the things I've captured on my phone in the past few months. I'm going to try to do a weekly or monthly update too, but this is just to get you all caught up.

Left to Right, top to bottom: 1) crepes on my bachelorette weekend. 2) working on wedding layouts. 3) wet puppy dawg! 4) fun pink shoes. 5) picking paint colors for master bedroom. 6) invitations came in! 7) bestie doing sister's hair. 8) me and my little sister on my bachelorette weekend. 9) heart coffee. 10) fresh strawberry snack! 11) writing out invitations. 12) luggage gifts that made me SO pumped for the honeymoon.

And a few more that are a little more recent. Think past two weeks :)

Part 1I'm not sure if you remember, but last time I posted, I mentioned I had another update for you too. Well, here it is: we repainted the bedroom AND the bathroom last week. And now we're pooped. Haha :)

Sorry. Mature hat back on now.

Anyway, before we redid the bathroom, it was great. The sink is nice and big and the whole bathroom is big enough for all of my stuff so that makes me happy. Plus the shower is amazing. But since it's the only full bathroom in the house, and since it's the bathroom our guests use, we thought it could use a little...sprucing up.

And by sprucing up I mean repainting, new mirror, new cabinet-thingie above the toilet and new shower curtain.

Anyway, here's the before:

Please note that the top of the sink is not dirty, it's just like that naturally. It kind of bothers me because it looks like I spit toothpaste all over it, but I didn't. Swear.

I'm actually just gonna try to get over that. Why? Cause I am not exactly sure how I would fix it.

Moving on. The problems with the bathroom were that it was kind of cave-ey to me. Dark. Small. Wet. I thought a little light in there would do a sister good! So we got to painting. This time, John helped :)

And after painting, the new bathroom accessories came to play. And now it looks AH-MAY-ZING. Like, holey guacamole I'm pumped about it! I'll share an after pic with you tomorrow. Prepare to be floored!

UPDATE: I have misplaced my camera cards (I know) so until then, you'll have to wait on your updated pic. I know, you're on the seat of your pants (is that the phrase) but I promise I'll get to it as soon as I can!Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-39686108609639795322012-06-07T15:52:00.001-05:002012-06-13T14:36:15.394-05:00Is My Dog Cute....

...or is my dog cute?

Every morning, Ella likes to stay in bed for as.long.as.possible. Which is, quite frankly the cutest thing in the entire world. Unfortunately it makes it extremely difficult to wrench yourself out from under the covers because that little fur-ball is so warm and so soft. Finally captured just how cute she can be when she doesn't want to get up.

P.S. Doesn't the new wall color look lovely behind her? Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-10308633998538911842012-06-06T08:42:00.003-05:002012-06-13T15:24:21.560-05:00Tidewater is on the walls! This past weekend, John was away at a fishing trip with my dad and my sister's boyfriend, so I was able to concentrate a bit on some things around the house. After a round of dishes and laundry, I went to my mom's house to work on putting my wedding invitations together (pictures of those to come in a few weeks!). When John got back on Saturday, we decided that we would dedicate Sunday and the following week to working on the house. So on Sunday morning, I got up bright and early to start bringing Tidewater to the bedroom! (Tidewater is the name of our paint....see that post here)

As I was prepping the room, I thought to take a quick snapshot of the before since I hadn't showed it yet. Sorry for the poor quality. I'm apparently terrible at taking room photos (womp womp!)

Yeah. That's sad. What else is sad is that this is actually pretty true-to-life of what it would normally look like. See why I was so sad about my bedroom?!?

After pushing all the furniture into the middle of the room, I got my paint on. Yep, I was rockin it out.

Two coats later, the bedroom was magically turned to THIS:

Again, my photos aren't spectacular here. I expect more from myself but this was taken right before work this morning so let's just go with it.

And, just for visualization purposes.....here's a little photoshop magic of what I am actually envisioning in this room. See? It'll look better as we go. Promise.

Stay tuned. We painted another room in the house and I can't wait to share the transformation!!Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763073507411489705.post-49226719444544039802012-05-29T16:51:00.002-05:002012-06-13T14:36:15.409-05:00Paint Me an OceanOr just some tidewater would be nice :)

In case you missed it, John and I finally picked our new bedroom color; it's Tidewater by Benjamin Moore and I LOVE it! We had to do a few test samples first, but we really like the tidewater best. It's enough blue and enough green to make us both happy.

Enough words, though. See for yourself! Tidewater is the bottom color :)
But today, I want to show you something a little more personal.

It's MY bedroom idea board. See, I wasn't sure how everything would/could look together, so I thought it would be easier if I personalized it a little bit more by picking out a few things I really liked.

First thing's first, is that we officially picked a paint color. It's called Tidewater (Sherwin Williams). I started my little inspiration board with that as the background and a nice beige carpet as the bottom (since that's what we have. Duh).

Green curtains are really inspiring me lately so I will definitely need to get my hands on some. Only thing is, they're REALLY hard to find in a fun, chartreuse green! I like these, but they're a little expensive. Maybe I'll sew some?

We have already picked out a dresser that we found on Craigslist (more on that later). It's just going to be plain white, so just put a "stand-in" dresser in the picture for now. Visualization, people.

I want to buy some RAST tables by Ikea and give them this awesome makeover like Aubrey + Lindsay's Little House Blog did to theirs. At less than $40 a pop, I feel like these dressers will really come in handy -- mainly because they provide extra drawers so John and I can hide away our pjs and undies :)

I want to accessorize with gold things - maybe a gold mirror above the bed and some gold picture frames? Those will have to come towards the end, but it's just what I'm thinking for now.

Add a few pops of color (pillows/lamps) and wallah! A much better-looking Master Bedroom that we can actually enjoy! Ahhh, just looking at this makes me want to curl up in that bed and read a good book!

I'll update as we go. I'm planning on getting my paint on in the next few weeks :)

I moved in with John about a month and a half ago. Not long, I'd say. One of the first things we did in preparation of the big move was to repaint the master bedroom. After putting up our first coat, let's just say it wasn't really makin' us feel warm and happy so John and I decided to repaint it. This time, we went for a neutral beige. Ahh, nothing like BEIGE to make you feel happy, right?

Wrong. I hate it.

Luckily, I have the BEST FIANCE IN THE WORLD (!!) who said I could paint it again. Third time is the charm, right? So I started the search for the perfect color. First place I went was Pinterest, to see what images had spoken out enough for me to actually pin them in the first place. What I found? A lotta blues and a lotta beige. Since beige was already living on my walls (unwelcomely, might I add) I decided to concentrate on the blues.

Yeah, that's right. From college.

It seems like only yesterday that I was the one graduating from the Fulbright College at the University of Arkansas. Going back for Marinna's graduation was a bittersweet reminder of where I myself was, only two short years ago. A young girl, ready for what life had yet to offer me.

As we sat in the large arena awaiting our graduates, I was able to reflect on my life since graduation, and I tried to imagine where my sister would soon be - what her own life had yet to open up to. My two years post-graduation have held so many wonderful things: a grown-up job, my own dog, a perfect proposal and a move into a house with the man that I love.

Marinna has so much ahead of her. She's smart, gorgeous, fun and funny. I was so proud to see her walk across that stage to accept her diploma. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and in Spanish. She got English departmental honors, was named a Fulbright College Senior Scholar and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Next year, she's planning on attending grad school up in Fayetteville. It's a year-long program that I'm sure she'll excel in. And after THAT graduation, she wants to be a teacher. She's wanted to be a teacher since she was a little girl, and she'd be pretty darn good at it.

As I prepared for my first shower (seen here), I knew I wanted to give the hostesses something really neat. After a few days of racking my brain and coming up empty, I enlisted my trusty mom's advice. Her solution?

"How about umbrellas? You know, since it's a shower?"

My mom is a freaking genious. I loved the idea and ran with it. A few days and three Vera Bradley umbrellas later, I was prepared. But since it was so clever, I knew I needed a fun way to let everyone in on the pun. So I came up with a few little thank you cards, slapped them together and called it a day! Inspiration came from these adorable invitations on Minted.com.

The tag says "Thanks so much for the shower"

What do you think? Pretty cute, huh? The great thing about the umbrellas is it's definitely something that anyone could always use, and the fun patterns we bought are sure to bring some color and fun to a rainy day!
It was my first "wedding event" so far, and it could not have been more perfect. We had many wonderful friends who came, and John and I got so many fantastic gifts! For food, we had a mexican-themed fiesta (it was Cinco de Mayo, after all!) and margaritas. AH-MAY-ZING!!! I loved everything! Here are some pictures my sisters managed to capture of the day:
And, of course, I cannot forget the three wonderful women who made it all happen. Thank you -- all of you -- so much. It was so great and could not have been any more perfect!
Sorry for the long delay in blog posts -- as I said a few weeks back, life was gettin' a little out of control and I was having a hard time keeping up with everything. Luckily, work has settled down a bit and I decided I deserved a good ole fashioned day off. Today is all about catching up -- with you, with the wedding, with my new home and with MYSELF! Thought I'd focus on all of you first and give you a quick post to let you know how much I missed this blog :)

Since yesterday was Mother's Day, I thought it would only be appropriate to do a post that is relevant to my mom (and dad). If you remember a few months back, I rented the 35mm/1.4 L lens and did a few photoshoots (like my little sister, seen here). Well, my parents were kind enough to volunteer back then, and they've been waiting to see their pictures ever since. I finally got some time yesterday to finish editing them and now I'm ready to share.
Mom and Dad, thanks for letting me take your pictures. I hope you like them. You two are so inspring to me and I hope to take so many of the lessons you taught me about life and love into my own marriage. I hope that John and I still love each other as much as you two do in 24 years, and that we remember that it is possible. You show us that every single day and we love you both dearly.

Peace. I'm out.Katihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08780200783122584461noreply@blogger.com4
